Use the Project Tasks table to find tasks assigned to specific people, identify unassigned work, and organize tasks by assignee or custom label. Eligible task exports also include saved custom label and external link information.

Before you start
Open the project whose tasks you want to review. You need access to Project Tasks, and your organization must have these task-table improvements enabled. Your existing permissions still control whether you can export tasks or change their assignments.
You can filter and sort by assignee even if you don't have permission to change task assignments.
| Capability | Availability |
|---|---|
| Assignee filtering and sorting | Available to users who can view Project Tasks when the improvements are enabled, including on projects connected to issue tracking. |
| Custom label sorting and additional export fields | Also requires Manual Task Tracking to be enabled and the project not to be connected to issue tracking. Exporting still requires your existing task-export permission. |
Note: These improvements apply to the Project Tasks view. They don't change My Tasks, Validate Tasks, Request accessibility support, or other task views.
Filter tasks by assignee
Use the Assignee filter to show tasks assigned to one or more people, tasks without an assignee, or both.
- Open the project's task list.
- Open the Assignee filter.
- Select the people whose tasks you want to see. Select Unassigned to include tasks with no assignee.
- Review the updated task list.
The filter lists the same workspace users available when setting a task's assignee, plus Unassigned.
- Select one person to show only tasks assigned to that person.
- Select multiple people to show tasks assigned to any of those people.
- Select only Unassigned to show tasks with no assignee.
- Select people and Unassigned together to include both their tasks and unassigned tasks.
Assignee filtering works with other active filters, such as name, Progress, Custom label, and External Status. Tasks must match the other active filters as well as one of your selected assignee values.
For example, select a teammate and Unassigned, then apply a Progress filter. You'll see tasks assigned to that teammate or no one that also match the selected progress state.
Clear the Assignee filter
Remove your selections from the Assignee filter to stop filtering by assignee. Other active filters remain applied. Unassigned tasks remain in the list when there's no Assignee filter, unless another filter excludes them.
Your Assignee filter is kept in the page URL, so reloading that URL restores your selections while the feature is enabled.
If a task is reassigned or unassigned, it leaves the filtered list after the list refreshes if it no longer matches. An empty list can mean no tasks match your combination of filters.
Sort tasks by assignee
Sort by assignee to organize the displayed tasks by the names shown in the Assignee column.
- Make sure the Assignee column is visible. If it's hidden, use Hide and show columns to show it.
- Select the Assignee column header to sort in ascending order.
- Select the header again to reverse the sort direction.
Names sort alphabetically without treating uppercase and lowercase letters differently. Unassigned tasks appear first in ascending order and last in descending order. They aren't sorted alphabetically under the word “Unassigned.”
Sort tasks by custom label
On projects eligible for Manual Task Tracking, sort by custom label to organize tasks by their saved label names. The project must not be connected to issue tracking.
- Make sure the Custom label column is visible. If it's hidden, use Hide and show columns to show it.
- Select the Custom label column header to sort in ascending order.
- Select the header again to reverse the sort direction.
Labels sort alphabetically by displayed name, without treating uppercase and lowercase letters differently. Tasks without a label appear first in ascending order and last in descending order. They aren't sorted alphabetically under “No label.”
Sorting doesn't change a task's label or workflow status. Existing custom label filtering continues to work alongside the other task filters.
Note: Sorting is available only while the relevant column is visible. Showing a hidden column restores its sort control when your project is eligible and the feature is enabled.
Export task details
Download task information as a comma-separated values (CSV) file using the existing project task export control. On eligible Manual Task Tracking projects, the file includes these additional columns:
| Column | Exported value |
|---|---|
| Custom label | The task's current custom label name, not its internal identifier. |
| External Link Text | The display text saved for the task's external link. |
| External Link URL | The web address saved for the task's external link. |
To export tasks:
- Open the project's task list.
- To export specific tasks, select their checkboxes. To export all project tasks, leave individual tasks unselected and use the all-task export.
- Use the existing task export control to download the CSV file.
Both selected-task and all-task exports include the additional columns when the project is eligible. Existing export fields remain unchanged.
Exported values reflect the information saved at the time of export. If a custom label was renamed, a later export uses its current name. A task without a label or external link still exports, with blank cells for the missing values. The cells don't contain the interface text “No label.”
Note: The Assignee filter doesn't restrict an all-task export. Exporting all tasks still includes the full project task set, not only the tasks visible under that filter. Select the specific tasks you want when you need a smaller export.
Projects connected to issue tracking, or without Manual Task Tracking enabled, don't receive the additional custom label and external link export columns. These improvements don't add a new export format or change how external links are created or edited.
