Feature highlight video: Test Accelerator Introduction and Overview
Use Test Accelerator to perform in-house manual evaluations on your digital asset. Our test guides let you know what you'll need and how to test your digital asset using assistive technology. Once complete, you can review the evaluation results in the platform and start remediating.
Note: Test Accelerator is a feature set within the Level Access browser extension.

Add pages
Before performing an evaluation, you need to define the scope (or set of pages you want to test) and add them to the page repository in the platform. Once the pages exist in the platform, you can add them to your evaluation for testing. You can also add pages as you go when you create the evaluation.
To add pages:
- Navigate to the workspace level.
- Under Workspace, select Digital assets. The Digital asset portfolio is displayed.
- Choose your digital asset.
- Select Scan settings.
- Choose Pages.
- Select Add page.

Enter the:
- Page title.
- Page URL
- Description.
- Upload a screenshot.
- Enter the Alternative text.
- Select Add page.
Create components
If you want to associate findings with specific components on a page, you can add components to the platform to use in your evaluation. Associating findings with component gives you a different way to visualize issues and helps you prioritize remediation tasks.
Note: once you've associated a component to a page in your evaluation, you can't remove it.
To create a component:
- Navigate to the workspace level.
- Under Workspace, select Digital assets.
- Choose the digital asset.
- Perform one of the following actions:
- Select Scans, and then the Components tab -or
- Under Manage, select Digital asset settings, and then Components.
- Select Add component.
- Enter the Component name.
- Enter the CSS selector. Learn more about CSS selector syntax. Note that you can't use the "|" (vertical bar), which is not supported as a valid selector. Here are some examples of valid selectors:
- .primary-button
- [class=”carousel”]
- [component-name~=”card”]
- Alternatively, to get the CSS selector:
- Right-click the web page and select Inspect. The console will open.
- Select the code until the chosen component on the webpage is highlighted.
- Right-click the code and select Copy > Copy selector.
- In the Platform, paste the code in the CSS selector field.
- Optional:
- Enter a description of the component.
- Upload an image of the component. It will appear as a thumbnail in the Components table and the Components report in the scan results.
- Select Create.
Create an evaluation in the platform
You need to create and set the scope of your evaluation in the platform before you can start testing in the browser extension.
To create an evaluation in the platform:

Perform one of the following procedures:
From Do this Organizational level menu - Select Evaluations, and then Manual evaluations.
- Select Create new.
Digital assets page - Select the digital asset you want to evaluate.
- Select the Evaluations tab.
- Select Add evaluation
- Fill out the evaluation details:
- Enter the evaluation name.
- Select the digital asset you want to perform the evaluation on.
- Choose the testing medium.
- Select the Accessibility standards. Web, Android and iOS manual evaluations support EN 301 549 and Section 508 audits alongside WCAG. Learn more about non-WCAG standards and custom rules.
- Select Add pages to the evaluation.
- Choose the pages you want to test or select Add page to create new pages.
- Choose Add to evaluation.
- If you want to associate components to the pages:
- Select Add components.
- Choose the components you want to add or select Add component to create a new component.
- Select Add to evaluation.
- Select Save and Create.
Install the extension
If the extension is already installed, you can open the extension to start testing.
To install the extension in Chrome:
- Log in to the platform.
- Navigate to the organizational level.
- Select Tools and Integrations.
- Choose Tools & extensions.
- Find the Chrome extension and select Download package.
- Choose Access Engine. The chrome store will open.
- Select Add to Chrome.
- Choose Add extension. Once the download is complete, the extension is now available in the Extensions menu next to the address bar.
Open the extension
To open the extension:
- Open your browser and go to the first page you want to scan. The extension won’t load on a blank tab.
- Select the Extensions menu next to the address bar.
- Choose Level Access extension. The extension will open in your browser.
- If you're not already logged in to the extension:
- Select Log in.
- Enter your platform URL.
- Select Next.
- If you're not logged in to the platform, log in.
Test with extension
Open the evaluation
To test with the browser extension:
- Select Evaluations.
- Choose the digital asset. Any evaluations you've created will populate.
- Select the evaluation. You can now start testing.
Perform the test steps
To perform your tests:
- Select Pages.
- Find the page you want to test.
- Select Test the page.
- Choose a test category.
- Select the test name.
- Review and complete the test steps.
Choose the test results
Once you complete the test steps, choose one of the test statuses:
- Add finding if the page failed the accessibility test.
- Pass if the page passed the accessibility test.
- Not applicable if the test doesn't apply to the page. For example, if the rule lis "Missing image description" and there are no images on the page.
Add a finding
To add a finding:
- Select Add Finding. The finding details will populate.

Review and make any changes to the finding details, including Rule, Title, Is this finding related to a component, Severity, Issue Frequency, and Viewport resolution.
Note: Issue frequency can be individual or global. Individual refer to a single finding attached to a single element on a single page. Global refers to a finding that appears everywhere. For example, for a common component such as a footer, we do not log the finding on every page where the footer appears. Instead, we log it once once, indicate that it belongs to the footer, and tag it as global.
- (Optional) Add a related component:
- Choose Yes.
- Select the component name.
- (Optional) Add the element and screenshot:
- Select Elements.
- Choose Add element.
- On the webpage, select the element with the finding.
- Choose Screenshot. The CSS selector, code snippet, and screenshot of the element will populate in the extension.
- Select Save.
- Report steps 1-6 for each instance of the finding.

View and edit findings in the extension
To review and edit the findings for page:
- Under the page name, select Findings.
- To edit a finding:
- Find the finding you want to edit.
- Select the three-dot action menu and choose Edit.
- Make your changes.
- Select Save.
Update evaluation statuses in the platform
Use evaluation statuses to let others know the progress of the evaluation. Evaluation statuses don't update automatically, so you'll have to update them as needed in the platform.
To update an evaluation status in the platform:
- Log in to the platform.
- Navigate to the organizational level.
- Under Find and Fix, choose Evaluations, and then Manual evaluations.
- Find the evaluation you want to change the status of.
- Select the status from the Evaluation status column.
The table below describes evaluation statuses in the platform.
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Pending review | The evaluation has been created and may need a review to confirm the desired scope is met. |
| Ready to start | The evaluation has been approved and is ready for testing. |
| In progress | The evaluation is currently in progress. |
| On hold | The evaluation is temporarily on hold. |
| Completed | The evaluation is complete and you can find the results on the Evaluations page. |

What you need to know about evaluation editing
Depending on your role or how the evaluation was created, you might be able to edit more or less information.
- Evaluations uploaded by our accessibility specialists have a more limited set of editing options. For example, edit evaluation name, testing medium, and accessibility standard.
- Evaluations you create using the Test Accelerator have a broader set of editing options. For example, you can edit the scope of the evaluation, as well as add, rearrange or remove evaluation pages.
Begin editing an evaluation
To edit an evaluation from the Digital assets page:
- Go to Digital assets.
- Select the digital asset you'd like to review.
- Select Evaluations.
- Select the evaluation you want to edit.
- From the three-dot action menu, select Edit. The Edit evaluation screen is displayed.
- Modify evaluation details as needed. For example, evaluation name and testing medium. If the evaluation is created through Test Accelerator, you can also edit the accessibility standard.
Select standard(s) that were applied in the initial evaluation request. Selecting a standard that has not been applied to the original evaluation will result in missing data.
- Edit the scope (add, reorder, or remove pages; add components). This option might not be available to you, depending on the type of evaluation.
- Select Save.
Add pages to the evaluation
To add pages:
- Select Add pages to the evaluation.
- Choose the pages you want to test or select Add page to create new pages.
- Choose Add to evaluation.
- If you want to associate components to the pages:
- Select Add components.
- Choose the components you want to add.
- Select Add to evaluation.
- Select Save.
Remove pages from the evaluation
To remove pages:
- Find the page you want to remove.
- Select the three-dot action menu.
- Choose Remove.
Reorder pages in the evaluation
To reorder pages:
- Find the page you want to move.
- Select the three-dot action menu.
- Choose Move up or Move down.
