Who can use this feature?
- Organization administrators, workspace administrators, and workspace users.
- Available for all packages.
Connect an Azure DevOps instance to a project to start pushing tasks into Azure DevOps. The platform projects to Azure DevOps relationship supports many to one, meaning that you can connect multiple projects to a single Azure DevOps project.
You need to set up an Azure DevOps connection in your workspace before you can connect it to a project.
On this page:
- Connect to an existing platform project
- Connect to a new platform project
- Configure progress mapping
- Configure fields
Connect to an existing platform project
To connect an Azure DevOps instance to an existing platform project:
- Go to Projects/tasks.
- Find the project you want to connect with and select View project.
- Select Add issue tracking project.
- In the Issue tracking software field, Select Azure DevOps.
- Choose the Azure DevOps instance and project you want to connect to.

Connect to a new platform project
To connect an Azure DevOps instance to a new platform project:
- Go to Projects/tasks.
- Select Create project. Read more about creating and editing projects.
- Fill out the required fields.
- In the Issue tracking software field, Select Azure DevOps.
- Choose the Azure DevOps instance and project you want to connect to.

Configure progress mapping
Progress mapping allows you to synchronize the progress of a task and the state of an Azure DevOps work item. When you update the state of a work item in Azure DevOps, the task progress automatically updates in the platform (and vice versa). You can map states for all work item types in your Azure DevOps instance or map the states for Azure DevOps project-specific work item types.
Below, we’ve connected a “Done” state from Azure DevOps to the “Requires review” progress in the platform. When the Azure DevOps work item state is changed to “Done,” the progress of the task will automatically update to “Requires review” in the platform, and vice versa.
Note: Platform tasks with progress “Review in progress” won’t change the linked Azure DevOps work item state.
Configure progress mapping for all issue types
You can configure transition rules for multiple states across all Azure DevOps work item types and projects.
To connect one or more Azure DevOps states to a task progress update:
- Go to Projects/tasks.
- Find the project you want to map to and select the three-dot action menu.
- Select Configure Progress Mapping.
- Choose Configure transition rules for all issue types.
- Select the Azure DevOps state you want to connect with each platform task progress. Note that each Azure DevOps state can only be connected to one platform task progress.
- Select Save.
Configure progress mapping for specific issue types
Our Azure DevOps integration allows you to configure transition rules for states specific to one project and work item type.
To connect one or more Azure DevOps states to a task progress update:
- Go to Projects/tasks.
- Find the project you want to map to and select the three-dot action menu.
- Select Configure Progress Mapping.
- Choose Configure transition rules for a specific issue type.
- Select the issue type.
- Select the Azure DevOps states you want to connect with each platform task progress. Note that each Azure DevOps state can only be connected to one platform task progress.
- Select Save.
Configure fields
Note: Only Enterprise customers can configure optional fields.
If you have required fields other than Summary and Description in your Azure DevOps instance, you’ll need to configure them on the platform first. Once they’re configured, you can push tasks to Azure DevOps. Enterprise customers can configure optional fields that the platform supports. For example, Severity. The optional fields vary depending on the configuration of your Azure DevOps project and issue type. Note that the platform doesn't support all Azure DevOps fields. For example, JSON items.
To configure fields:
- Go to Projects/tasks.
- Find the project you want to configure the fields for and select the three-dot action menu.
- Select Configure fields.
- Choose the issue type with required fields.
- Select Retrieve all fields. Any required or optional fields from the Azure DevOps project will load. Required fields are marked with an asterisk and optional fields are not.
- In the Element column, select default options for each field you want to configure.
- Select Save.
