Set up an Azure DevOps connection

Who can use this feature?

• Organization administrators.
• Available for the Accelerate and Enterprise packages. Also, for the Essential package with the Integrations add-on.

Set up an Azure DevOps connection in the platform so your team can sync data from your projects and tasks to an Azure DevOps project. With an Azure DevOps connection, you can push tasks into Azure DevOps and manage their progress there. There’s no limit to the number of issue tracking connections you can have in your organization, so if you have multiple Azure DevOps instances or use multiple issue tracking tools, you can connect each of them to the platform.

Your organization only needs to set up the connection once per instance. For example, if another workspace in your organization has already connected to a given Azure instance, you do not need to create another connection.

Create a personal access token

Before creating a personal access token, note that:

• A member of your team needs administrative access to Azure DevOps.
• The token must be reset at the end of the expiration date.
• Full access tokens do not grant us access to your Azure DevOps. Level Access will not be able to see your projects and data.
• You can only access the token when it’s created. It won’t be available in the future.

To create a personal access token for the Azure DevOps connection:

1. In Azure DevOps, Select the User Settings icon and choose Personal access tokens.
2. Select New Token.
3. Enter the token name. For example, Level Access issue tracking.
4. Choose the expiration date.
5. Choose the Full access option.
6. Select Create.
7. Copy and paste the access token into Notepad.

Create a connection from the Issue tracking page

To set up a new issue tracking connection:

1. Navigate to the organizational level. 

2. Under Manage, select Tools & Integrations, and then select Issue tracking.   

3. Select Add connection. If you don’t see this button, you likely don’t have the correct permissions to add an Azure DevOps connection.
4. Choose Azure and select Continue.
5. Confirm the workspace(s) you want to use this connection and select Continue.
   • You can add or remove workspaces after creating the connection by editing the connection.
6. Enter the organization Azure DevOps url. For example, https://dev.azure.com/organizationname/.
7. Enter the personal access token.
8. Select Create connection.

Create an issue tracking connection from the Project page

To set up a new issue tracking connection from the Project page: 

1. Go to Projects/tasks.
2. Find the project you want to open and select View project.  
3. Depending on whether issue tracking has been configured for this project:
   1. Select either Connect issue tracking or Edit issue tracking. 
   2. In the Connect to issue tracking software dialog, select set up a new one. 
   3. On the Add connection page, select Azure as the issue tracking application you want to connect, and then select Continue.
   4. Proceed to set up this connection.  After you have set up the new connection, the Project page is redisplayed.
