LevelDocs assists the following content contributors and accessibility specialists:
Content creators/authors
Enterprise and government organizations that create large volumes of documents (public sector, government, education, healthcare, and similar groups)
Non technical users
Non a11y champions
Document authors working in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Accessibility specialists and reviewers
Authors and organizations moving from reactive fixing to proactive and inclusive authoring
What problems does LevelDocs solve?
LevelDocs addresses the following situations:
Accessibility issues are often found late in the process, which makes fixes slow and costly. LevelDocs brings accessibility into the creation stage so content authors can prevent problems instead of reacting to them.
Authors might lack guidance, expertise, and tools for accessible document creation.
Most authors are not accessibility experts or champions.
Existing checkers provide inconsistent validation and less than optimal user experience.
Manual remediation is expensive, time consuming, and difficult to scale.
Many PDFs are created by authors external to an organization, or by design tools such as Canva, and cannot be corrected before publication.
Teams have limited visibility into accessibility quality and compliance.
Tooling is fragmented across Word, PowerPoint, and PDF, which slows adoption or accessibility compliant content approach.
Organizations need automated and consistent accessibility workflows that work at enterprise scale.
How does LevelDocs work?
LevelDocs embeds accessibility directly into the authoring process. With intelligent testing and an intuitive wizard, it integrates seamlessly into Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, to help teams create compliant documents while reducing reliance on specialists and third-party vendors.
For example, LevelDocs integrates directly into Microsoft Word for Windows as a ribbon plugin. During the document creation process, users can open the LevelDocs menu and use built-in wizards and tools to remediate accessibility issues. The Accessibility Wizard guides you step by step through key considerations for creating an accessible document. For example, use it to check the headings, tables, and images in your document. Simplify document compliance, from the first draft to publication!
What does a document need to meet to be accessible?
To be accessible, a document must comply with WCAG and PDF/UA accessibility standards, which LevelDocs supports.
Does LevelDocs support MacOS?
No. Currently, LevelDocs is available only for the Desktop versions of Microsoft Office on Windows.
Does LevelDocs remediate PDFs?
No. However, it does allow users to generate accessible PDFs from documents fixed by using the LevelDocs wizards. For PDF testing and remediation, use the PDF accessibility checker built into the Level Access platform.
What are PDF tags, and how does LevelDocs help with those?
PDF tags create a structured, semantic layer that defines how content is organized and interpreted by assistive technologies. Proper tagging identifies elements such as headings (for example, H1 and H2), tables, figures, and links, and ensures they appear in a logical reading order.
LevelDocs helps ensure that PDFs are accurately tagged and maintain a clean, efficient tag structure. With correct tags and a coherent reading order, assistive technologies—such as NVDA—can accurately interpret and navigate the document. This improves usability for people with disabilities and supports compliance with accessibility standards.
