In the accessibility space media refers to video and / or audio content. The type of media dictates the accessibility requirements.
Different types of media
In the context of accessibility compliance, media can be sorted into one of three categories:
- Audio-only
- Video
- Video with Audio
You can then further sort media into Live and Pre-recorded. The table below outlines these three types of media and some examples.
Types of media | Live examples | Pre-recorded examples |
---|---|---|
Audio-only | Radio show | Podcast |
Video-only | Live product demonstration | Product demo on your webpage (such as this video, which needs AD!) |
Video with Audio | News Television, Reality TV, CSPAN | Movie, Music video, TV Show |
Levels of compliance
Accessibility requirements for media depend on the level of WCAG compliance and your media type.
The table below outlines the level of compliance you’ll meet using specific deliverables for each type of media.
