Accessibility for Customer Service
Recommended for Customer Service or Support, and product managers. One 90-minute session.
Course overview: Inclusive customer support starts with knowing your customers – and their specific needs. In this session, we will look at accessibility needs for Customer Service teams, ranging from understanding common terminology and etiquette to the laws and regulations specific to addressing your customer’s accessibility needs.
Learning outcomes:
- Identify common disabilities and assistive technologies.
- Recognize the proper terminology and etiquette when communicating with people with disabilities.
- Become familiar with the various alternatives and solutions available to practice more inclusive customer support.
Captions, Transcripts, and Audio Description
Recommended for video editors and developers, and content creators. One 90-minute session.
Course overview: This session will provide attendees with an introduction to video accessibility. Attendees will learn what it takes to make a video accessible and will learn the difference between captions (open vs. closed), transcripts, and audio descriptions.
Learning outcomes:
- Identify the main checkpoints to determine if a video is accessible.
- Produce meaningful, high-quality video captions, and audio descriptions.
Accessibility for the Business
Recommended for executive sponsors, product developers, product owners, UX leads. One 90-minute session.
Course overview: Participants will learn the building blocks for developing an organizational digital accessibility program. Rather than focusing on the technical details of accessibility guidelines, this course seeks to expose stakeholders to the organizational benefits, challenges, and opportunities of adopting and investing in digital accessibility.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the value accessibility brings to the business and have the tools to integrate accessibility throughout my organization.
- Identify compliance requirements to ensure products are built in an accessible manner.
- Define a VPAT and understand how to interpret and author these reports.
Building and Delivering Accessible Presentations
Recommended for anyone. Non-technical staff. One 90-minute session.
Course overview: In this session, attendees will learn about the importance of making presentations accessible. We will discuss accessible presentation best practices, considerations of multiple access needs, and the importance of making the entire user experience accessible (including in planning and follow-up). Participants will also be provided guidance on how to build accessible slides decks and present in a way that supports all users.
Learning outcomes:
- Recognize accessible presentation best practices for both engagement and content.
- Incorporate accessible presentation best practices for multiple access needs.
- Create accessible slide decks using Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides.
- Integrate accessibility best practices in planning and post-production efforts.
Building Accessible Presentations
Recommended for anyone. Non-technical staff. One 90-minute session.
Course overview: In this course, participants will become familiar with the essential presentation development concepts for creating accessible presentation files. Microsoft Office will be the tool used to demonstrate and practice key concepts for this session. Participants will also be introduced to using the Accessibility Checker tool in Microsoft. A Google Slides version is also available upon request.
Learning outcomes:
- Recognize accessible presentation best practices for both engagement and content.
- Distinguish multiple access needs of potential audience members.
- Create accessible slide decks using Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides tools.
