Access Engine Version 2.28
What's changed? Starting September 5, 2025, Access Engine will include:
- Five new rules to expand testing coverage
- Refinements to existing rules to improve accuracy and reduce false positives
Some of the new rules and changes coming to Access Engine include:
- New tests for aria-controls on different elements.
- New tests for evaluating the names of different elements as they interact with screen readers.
- Improvements to heading hierarchy validation.
- Improved testing around language elements.
- Better validation of child and parent elements across a number of tests.
How will this impact you? Automated scans run on or after September 5 may show changes in issue counts and scan scores. This means that you may see different results than you may have expected in upcoming scans or monitoring results. Specifically, you may see one of three outcomes:
- Some scans may report more issues and lower scores due to newly identified issues from the added rules.
- Many scans are likely to report fewer issues and higher scores thanks to reduced false positives.
- Some scans may see no change to issue count or score if the new or updated rules don't happen to apply to your specific digital asset.
