Install, navigate and connect the Level Access browser extension

The Level Access browser extension makes it easy to check for accessibility issues on any webpage or application. You can find the browser extension in platform, so you can install the extension and start scanning.

Install the extension in Chrome

To install the extension in Chrome:

  1. Log in to the platform.
  2. Go to the Level Access extension in the Chrome Store or find the web store link in the platform:
    1. From the platform navigation menu, under Manage, select Tools & Integrations.
    2. Choose Tools & Extensions.
    3. Find the Chrome extension and select Download package.
    4. Choose Access Engine. The Chrome store will open.
  3. Select Add to Chrome.
  4. Choose Add extension. Once the download is complete, the extension is now available in the Extensions menu next to the address bar.

Navigate the extension

When you log in to Test Accelerator, a vertical navigation toolbar appears on the left. On the right, you’ll find the main functional areas, including Scans, Evaluations and testing, and the Repository.

Note: You can access Home page options either directly from the page or through the vertical navigation toolbar by selecting the corresponding icon.

The table below describes the icons on the vertical navigation toolbar. Use them to navigate the extension.

Icon Description

Home

The top icon in the vertical navigation toolbar on the left. Displays the Home page. 

Note: You can access the Home page options directly from the page or from the vertical navigation toolbar. In the latter case, select the corresponding icon. 

The Home page has the following scan options: 

  • Quick scan: Scan a page and view results. 
  • Evaluations and testing: 
    • Scan multiple pages. View results in the platform
    • Contrast testing tool. Check color contrast issues
  • Repository: 
    • Add pages to repository. Create new pages with screenshots. 

Quick scan

Use quick scan to scan a single page and view the results in the browser extension.

Select Scan page. The Page report is displayed, with three tabs: 

  • Summary: Shows how many Failed findings there are, how many findings need manual check to confirm them, and the Severity levels. 
  • Failed: Lists the findings with confirmed accessibility concerns, that is their details and severity level. 
  • Needs review: Lists the findings that require a manual check to confirm

Scan multiple pages

Scan multiple pages and send the results to the platform. 

  • Enter the Platform URL.

Note: This is the URL that you use to log into the Level Access Platform.  The select Next and follow the on-screen prompts.

Contrast tool

Test color contrast on the selected elements, or pick colors to test. 

To test an element: 

  1. Select the Contrast icon on the vertical toolbar. 
  2. On the Test element tab, choose Select element. 

Note: Select an element by clicking it on the page or by choosing a node (using the mouse or keyboard to navigate the DOM). When you're satisfied with the selection, click Test contrast.

To pick colors: 

  1. Select the Contrast icon on the vertical toolbar. 
  2. Select the Pick colors tab. 
  3. Enter the colors. 
  4. Select Test contrast. 

Settings

Display the Settings page. Here you can toggle the following settings: 

  • Scans
    • Include frame and iframe content

Profile

 View your personal details and log out of the extension.

Connect the extension to the platform

You’ll have to configure your settings in the browser extension before you run multi-page scan sessions and send your results to the platform. 

Only Accelerate and Enterprise customers can connect and send scan results to the platform.

To connect the extension to the platform:

  1. Go to the page you want to scan.
  2. Select the Extensions menu and choose Level Access Extension.
  3. Select the Home icon.
  4. Select Log in.
  5. Enter your platform URL and select Next. For example, https://company.essentia11y.com/.
  6. If you're not already logged into the platform, log in.

You’re now ready to start scanning.
